Spice Up Your Bedroom

People often ask us about our method for mixing bedding patterns and colors. We aren't really formulaic about it, but here's a peek into our typical thought process.

For starters, we almost always mix old with new, a vintage kantha or quilt gives a room soul.

Next, a Ralph Lauren print of some sort is one of our go-to components. Their designs are classics that stand the test of time, and we love a sham with a ruffle! Also, an animal print is often incorporated because in our minds, it is a neutral, but we also love checks, stripes, and florals. So, at least two of these are always included, sometimes all four. And finally, denim! It is a basic that goes with everything, just like a good pair of jeans, so it is a fan favorite of ours too.

And it's no secret that we love to play with color, some might say we infuse too much color, but the unexpected has forever been our constant companion. We have forged a fond friendship, a history of walking hand in hand. Forget trends and the Pantone Colors of the Year, and choose a palette of hues that make you feel a tingle when you walk in the room. We love pink, so most every bedding combo in our homes has a splash of pink, but with varying degrees of intensity. In our world, family isn't always a blood relative, so various shades of magenta, blush, wine, garnet and even lilac are considered next of kin in our design book.

One added bonus of using this approach is that your can move pillows and blankets from room to room to create fresh looks because they all have a common thread and end up working in multiple spaces.
